Automatic checks
The app checks for updates on launch and silently every couple of hours. When a new version exists, an update pill appears in the top bar — Update v1.4.0 available — and nothing else interrupts you. Automatic checks never pop dialogs.
Manual checks
- macOS: Verdict Strategy Builder → Check for Updates…
- Windows: Help → Check for Updates…
A manual check always answers: either the Software Update dialog opens (update found), or a message confirms "You're up to date — v1.3.2."
Installing an update
Click the update pill (or run a manual check) to open the Software Update dialog:
- Available — shows the new version, your current version, and release notes. "The download is verified against the app's update signing key before anything is installed." Choose Download & Install or Later.
- Downloading — a progress bar with sizes (
12.3 MB of 48.1 MB). - Ready — the update is downloaded and signature-verified. Choose Restart Now to finish installing, or Restart Later — the pill switches to Restart to update and the staged update installs on your next restart.
If a download or install fails, the dialog says so and offers Try Again.
Notes
- Updates are cryptographically signed; the app refuses anything that doesn't verify against its update key.
- An update never interrupts a running job — evolution and validation continue; install on your own schedule.
- Release-by-release changes are on the changelog.
